I used to love to read Car and Driver and any online information I could get on new cars . Now I feel like I am never going to be able to buy a new car. I also feel like new cars are all about the “newest tech” and best advertisement not the best car. F*c k I feel like I am in debt slavery. I am paying my cosigned student loans. My dad could afford the student loans he cosigned, but mom cannot afford the student loans she cosigned. My mother is now disabled due to medical problems. I browse ctaigalist in the hopes I can replace my current car when it goes kaput. Also, my marriage is horrible. I wonder if I made the right choices while also thinking God does not approve of divorce but he is forgiving of all. Sorry I needed a place to complain, and Facebook would not be a good place.

I am f*cking drunk which I also think God does not approve of. Here is my favorite car for your time.

I don't think God really cares man. If such a thing exists anyways. Do you know how bored you'd have to be to create a universe and micro manage to the level of caring if people do drugs.

Start by doing research on what cars are the most affordable to maintain. The rest, you can imagine.

The problem with Motortrend and C&D is that it seems the best written articles for a wide audience are unobtanium hyper super duper cars that their a fore mentioned wide audience can’t actually drive. The reviews and long term tests people should care about are relegated to short-written updates and that’s it. Now sports cars from Mustangs to Vettes and even some “lesser” Porsches some may consider used, that’s fine. I just don’t find myself giving a damn about what McLaren/Ferrari/Lamborghini is making 30-50 of and is already sold out and privately launched, only to be shown off be Scmheeeeeegma150 on YT. If they just wrote arti cles about sensible cars with long term reviews and pandering to JD Power and whatnot, they’d just be Consumer Reports; and no one wants to be that.

On a hypocri tical tangent, that last exotic car I gave a damn about was the newest Vantage because I want one in the future.

I’m sorry that you’re struggling right now. Debt can really make life frustrating. I also feel like I might never buy a new car, but that’s mostly because from a value standpoint I’m much happier spending less than 10 grand on a car and still getting something pretty good.

As far as your marriage, I think that God wants you to be happy. Divorce is fine if that’s what it takes to be happy. Don’t spend your whole life being miserable.

yeah, what K-Roll said. I don’t read any car magazines anymore because they’re geared toward moneyed Boomers, and (especially in the case of Road & Track) mostly review $90-400,000 unobtanium. They’re absolutely worthless.

I make just under six figures, I’m single, no kids.  You know what I drive?  A 2011 Ranger with 120,000+ miles. Road & Track would consider me an illiterate shit-kicker.

If God doesn’t approve of it, he can damn well tell you Himself. If He won’t then why care what He thinks?

In my adulthood I think I realised why my dad likes Road and Track the best. Also I really wish Doug did regular car reviews which is probably why I like retro Motor week videos, but their American bias is obnoxious, but 100% understood.

I wish I could find reviews of the Japanese cars sold in the U.S. in the 60's I know Datsun was 1st followed by Toyota, and Isuzu sold 300 Bellels. Canada was lucky with their Bellett production. I want a Canadian Bellett.

Without naming names, I’m sure you contemplating/going through a divorce is sooooo not a big deal that if it was, some people would be shamed into never marrying again in the eyes of the church. Also it would unjustly be worse for a female than a male.

As a never married individual, I don’t have much useful advice other than contacting your doctor to set you up with a therapist so you can get yourself back on track and just move forward with your life.

Also, I know the pain of dealing with student loan debt. It sucks but a necessary evil for most of us.  You might want to consider a deferment or forbearance for a year so you can take care of YOU.

I came here to give you an eye-roll emoji based on the title , however upon reading the entire post I won’t do that. B ut I will say that I hope it gets better for you. Student loan debt is horrible and I sincerely hope you make it out of that o n a positive note.

This may be personal and you can choose to not answer it, but how old are you? Your parents co-signed your student loans but you’re also married? I’m a little confused how that happened?

Back on topic: Cars were always about the newest tech. Just look at the 959 and the original R32 Skyline. They were all about the best marketing and the best tech. It’s just now we have tech that is more in your face and take on different parts of the driving experience like lane-assist and adaptive lights and cruise control. Back then it was about making the car safer and more predictable through airbags and all wheel drive. Now that we’ve gotten quite good at it, we can move onto other things.

I will agree on lack of quality content online for cars now though. It seems that since every clown on the face of the earth (read: Shmee, Salomondrin, Vehicle Virgins, etc.) is able to post their opinions online and through YouTube there are no true journalists left who want to cover cars properly. I’ve been feeling more and more disconnected to cars as well, but I still have an interest in them. I just have adopted the “I’m going to do me” mindset and I like what I like. I still like M3s and I still like 911s. I don’t care that people think they’re not pure anymore. What does that even mean? It gives me a special feeling thinking about them and I aspire for them.

I’ve been in a lot of shit relationships and when it comes down to it, that affects your happiness more than anything. I’d rather die poor with someone who made me feel happy. I don’t think the idea of God disapproving of divorce really makes that much sense, because that doesn’t really telegraph with feeling awful with another person.

Sorry you’re going through hell bud. We’re all here to talk when you need to vent. Make the decision that is best for you. You can’t live in misery.

I’m not a huge fan of new cars either. We’re getting away from what people need into whatever flashy stuff can be added to get sales. I am 100% perfectly happy with my plain jane, no nosense 2009 Accent with no features whatsoever.

You give me a brand new inexpensive hatchback with a full suite of airbags, a manual and an aux input jack and I’m happy. I don’t need a backup camera, or accident avoidance forward cameras, or Apple Carplay or Android Auto or blind spot monitors or all that jazz.

Plus, anything new depreciates like hell. I’ll always buy used because you get something in great shape for far less money with plenty (of not almost all) the life still left in it.

I agree. About the car stuff. New cars suck. They’re too much like phones. Disposable and feature driven.

Newer cars suck for most part. And worse yet they keep getting more expensive. Cars could and should be cheaper than they were 20 years ago but instead they keep getting “better” instead of more efficient, and cheaper.

As for the other things. I was on the brink of devorce and stuck it out for religious reasons. It worked out for me and my wife, were both happier now than we were 4 or 5 years ago. And I think my life with her is better than t could have been without. Communication and pactience are pretty important. Also I had to learn to focus on the good things instead of focusing on the things it seemed I was missing. In my case it was mostly a lack of adventure and feelings I still had about an ex girlfriend.

My parents also had a lot of problems, right as I was 17-19 but they stuck it out, talked it out, and are way better together than they would be apart.

I’m not saying my example should effect your choice, but if you really want to keep your marriage than it might be worth fighting for.

As for drinking. The Bible basically just says not to put yourself at risk of endangering your life or the lives of others. So along as you’re not driving, or abusing regularly enough o hurt your body than biblically your AOK.

How life gets better mate. I was recently reeeeal down because of debt and work stress but things are picking up. I finally feel like I know how to do my job so that’s cool.

True freedom is driving a beater car. I miss my ‘99 Camry with its marshmallow suspension because I backed it into a pole and didn’t really feel too bad about it, and registration/insurance/parts were hilariously cheap.

I have most all the Road and Track Road Test Annuals from the 60s, know they tested the Datsun 1600/2000 Sports Cars, think they tested a Honda S600, maybe a Toyopet and Datsun or two as well.  I will try to remember to look them up tomorrow.

I lost interest in new cars too, could afford payments, don’t want to go into debt to acquire a depreciating asset. Also, not many appeal to me, to much tech, too much big, too little windows. Maybe a Fiat 124 Spider.

I have had plenty of fun with cars on a small budget.

As far as marriage, you try to work it out, if no kids walking away if it doesn't work out can be clean if never exactly easy.

If you’re struggling with your student loans, look into an income-based repayment plan. It will take longer to pay everything off, but they cap the monthly payments. That will give you some relief.

Marriage is a tricky thing. The biggest factor in failed marriages is money. Fix your student loan debt problem and you might see some improvements in your marriage.

I’ve looked into the income based student loan pay back. Only my government student loans will let me do this, and they have the highest interest and smallest amount. I’m trying to pay an extra $15-$40 a month on my smallest high interest loan to pay it off faster and spend less on interest.
